If you're considering donating furniture...

Please remember that the items you are donating will go into another family's home. Ask yourself:

  • Would I be embarrassed to give this to someone I know and love?
  • Does this smell, is it broken, is it badly stained, or just plain gross?
  • Would this fit in a small apartment?

Remember, these items will likely go into small apartments. Dallas Furniture Bank is thrilled to accept:

  • Sofas*
  • Loveseats
  • Sectionals (no section over 7ft)
  • Upholstered chairs
  • Reclining furniture: sofas, loveseats, complete futons, and chairs
  • Coffee tables
  • End tables
  • Small dinette sets*
  • Dining tables
  • Dining chairs
  • Dressers*/chests/night stands
  • Mattresses/box springs - ONLY as drop off or part of a larger donation. We do not distribute used beds; we recycle them and put the proceeds back into our programs. All of our clients receive new mattresses and box spring sets.
  • Bed frames (complete sets, disassembled and bound together. No kings)
  • Lamps*

For reasons of liability, space, or the fact that it's just not household furniture, Dallas Furniture Bank cannot accept:

  • Overly large furniture, armoires, or entertainment cabinets
  • Headboards/footboards
  • Any furniture that must be attached to a wall
  • Water beds, king beds, or electric beds
  • Furniture that is broken, stained, torn, or poses hygiene or health concerns (cigarette smoke, urine, pet hair, dry rot, mold, etc.)
  • Baby beds/cribs, playpens, highchairs, or bunkbeds
  • Appliances (microwaves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, etc.)
  • Televisions, computers, or other electronics
  • Pet items (fish tanks, dog beds, crats, cat towers, etc.)
  • Musical instruments (pianos, organs, band instruments, guitars, etc.)
  • Non-furniture items (clothing, housewares, knick-knacks, rugs, used bed linens or pillows, dishes, glasses, utensils, ceiling fans, kitchen cabinets, toys, small appliances, etc.)
  • Office furniture (cubicles, desks, filing cabinets, etc.)
  • Building surplus (doors, windows, fixtures, cabinets, etc.)

Unsure if we take it?

If you are unsure about whether or not DFB can accept your item(s), send us a photo before you schedule. We're happy to let you know before you pay the non-refundable pick up fee.

Pick Up or Drop Off?

DFB Standard Pick Ups

Dallas Furniture Bank has truck, will travel! There are some things you should keep in mind:

  • There is a non-refundable $50 fee, no matter how many items we pick up. This fee helps pay for the truck, fuel, and staff to pick up your items.
  • Donors are required to be on-site. A 15 minute grace period will given for donors not on-site at arrival.
  • DFB only picks up from the ground floor or the second floor, unless there is a suitable elevator available.
  • DFB reserves the right to refuse any items we cannot use.
  • You will receive a receipt for the pick up fee (tax-deductible!) as well as for your items. Note that the IRS will not allow us to assign a value to your items. You'll need to speak with a tax professional to determine the value for tax purposes.
  • DFB picks up only in certain zip codes (see below).
  • DFB schedules pick ups a minimum of a week in advance.
  • DFB picks up only Monday - Friday,11am to 3pm

ReSupply Priority Pick Ups

Dallas Furniture Bank works with ReSupply to offer pick up services when our trucks cannot get to you.

  • If you need something picked up sooner than DFB can come by, you will need to schedule a Priority Pick Up.
  • If the item is higher up than the 2nd floor and there is no access to a suitable elevator, you will need to schedule a Priority Pick Up.
  • If you need something picked up on a weekend, you will need to schedule a Priority Pick Up.
  • If you are outside the DFB pick up zip codes, you will need to schedule a Priority Pick Up.

Dropping Off

If you would like to drop off a furniture donation to our warehouse, please contact our office at 972-466-0600 to arrange a drop off time.

Keep in mind:

  • Our warehouse is open Monday - Friday from 9am to 3pm.
  • We are NOT open on Saturdays or Sundays.
  • Items that do not meet our requirements may be turned away.
  • We usually have people to unload your items, but your help is always appreciated.
  • You will receive a receipt for your donation for tax purposes. Note that the IRS will not allow us to assign a value to your items. You'll need to speak with a tax professional to determine the value for tax purposes.

Liability

Please note: Dallas Furniture Bank is NOT a moving company. Our staff is simply there to pick up donated furniture. Please have your items in a convenient location. We are not liable for damages.

Our Commitment to Our Donors

We will not sell, share or trade our donors’ names or personal information with any other entity, nor send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations.

This policy applies to all information received by Dallas Furniture Bank, both online and offline, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.

To the extent any donations are processed through a third-party service provider, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.
