Dallas Furniture Bank offers high quality, gently used furniture for a fraction of the cost of furniture found at thrift stores, online marketplaces, or garage sales. However, our furniture is only available to clients referred to us by our partner agencies.
DFB Partner agencies must meet certain criteria regarding services offered, agree to the policies and procedures of Dallas Furniture Bank, and pay an annual membership fee.
At Dallas Furniture Bank, we understand that if you’ve never used our services, you may not be willing to commit to membership.
You may be thinking, “Would we even make referrals? If so, how often? Is the furniture good? Is the process smooth? Would our clients find it helpful? Would this be useful or a waste of time and money?”
Through Try 3, your agency may place up to three client referrals to Dallas Furniture Bank between June 1 and December 31 without paying a membership fee.
How Try 3 Works
- Your agency will fill out the Try 3 online application form telling us about your programs and designating one (1) authorized staff member to place referrals.
- Your agency will agree to follow the policies and procedures of Dallas Furniture Bank.
- Your agency will be given the password to the below online Try 3 referral portal, through which you may make up to three (3) client referrals (sometimes known as “orders”) through December 31, 2025.
- After participating in Try 3, You can then decide if Dallas Furniture Bank Membership is right for your agency.

Things to Know
- DFB furniture is not free; however, it is very affordable. For example, a sofa is just $45. You will receive the complete price list in the policies and procedures document.
- At Dallas Furniture Bank, we believe everyone deserves a new, clean bed. DFB never distributes used beds. ALL of the mattresses, bed frames, pillows, and sheet sets we offer are brand new.
- Your agency decides who pays: you or your client. You do not have to choose the same every time – you may decide on a case-by-case basis if you’d like.
- Your agency decides who chooses the furniture: DFB or your client. Some of our partner agencies ask DFB to choose the items, which is the fastest way to get furniture; others allow their clients to make “shopping appointments” and come to our warehouse to choose their own furniture. Again, this decision may be made on a case-by-case basis.
- Dallas Furniture Bank offers furniture delivery for a fee, but only to certain zip codes. The fee is based on how far away the furniture is going. You will receive a list of zip codes and associated delivery fees in the policies and procedures document. Pick up is always free.
FAQ about Try 3
Do we have to be a housing services provider to use Dallas Furniture Bank?
Not at all. While the majority of our partners place people out of homelessness into housing, we are here for any agency whose program participants need help with furniture.
Is the furniture free for Try 3?
No, the furniture is not free. Through Try 3, your agency is simply able to make referrals just like DFB partner agencies without paying the usual DFB partner agency annual membership fee.
Does DFB offer housewares, appliances, decor, or electronics?
No, DFB has stayed true to our mission for 23 years and focuses solely on basic household furniture.
Do we (as the referring agency) have to pay for the furniture ourselves?
No. You choose who pays -- your agency or your program participants/clients. We have several partners who refer clients who pay for their own furniture. However, our furniture is not available to the general public without a referral from a partner agency.
How will the number of referrals we make through Try 3 be tracked?
DFB will keep track of how many referrals you have made through Try 3. Once you have made your third referral, we will let you know that you have used all three tries.
What if we want to make more than three referrals?
To continue making referrals after your Try 3, your agency should pay the annual membership fee and become an official Dallas Furniture Bank partner agency.
Will our partner agency membership fee for 2025 be prorated if we decide to become a partner?
Yes, we will prorate your Dallas Furniture Bank partner agency annual membership fee for the remainder of 2025.
Can we try three more in 2026?
Try 3 ends December 31, 2025.
If DFB decides to offer Try 3 in 2026, only agencies who have not previously participated in Try 3 will be eligible.
Can we participate in Try 3 if we were a partner agency in the past?
Agencies that previously had DFB partner agency membership prior to but not since 2020 are eligible to participate. We understand if your staff, leadership, programs, or policies have changed and you want to give us another try.
The primary purpose of the Try 3 program is to allow agencies that have never worked with DFB to see if membership is right for them.
We order through Housing Forward Flex Funds. Why should we Try 3?
If your agency usually orders furniture through Housing Forward Flex Funds, you may still find that DFB is useful if you need to refer clients who will pay for their own furniture or need additional items that may not be covered by Flex Funds.
